Musician Charlie Colin of the band Train

Charlie Colin, a musician and founding member of the band Train, has sadly died. He was 58 years old.

According to a report from TMZ, Colin is said to have died unexpectedly after a freak accident that occurred while he was house-sitting for a friend in Brussels, Belgium. He is believed to have slipped and fell in the shower, though his exact cause of death has not been disclosed at this time.

Colin's mother was the one to share the tragic news, telling the outlet on Wednesday, May 22 that her son's body wasn't found until his friends returned home from their trip about five days ago.

It's unclear when exactly Colin's fall occurred, or what caused him to slip.

Colin was known for being a founding member and bass player for the band Train, the music group behind popular hits like "Drops of Jupiter," "Calling All Angels" and "Hey, Soul Sister." During his tenure with the band, Train was nominated for three Grammy awards, and won for Best Rock Song in 2002 with "Drops of Jupiter."

Along with bandmates Pat Monahan, Rob Hotchkiss, Jimmy Stafford and Scott Underwood, Colin was one of the original members when the group was formed in the mid '90s, though he later left in 2003 due to substance abuse issues.

"Charlie is one incredible bass player, but he was in a lot of pain," Monahan, the band's frontman previously told NBC San Diego in 2017. Noting that Colin's situation was "very painful for everyone else around him," Monahan said he eventually called a band meeting and told the other members they would have to choose between their bassist and lead singer.

“They weren’t happy about the choice," he recalled. "They were very clear that I put them in a very tough position."

Colin was later replaced by Johnny Colt, a bass player for the Black Crowes.

Prior to his passing, Colin had since relocated to Brussels, where he was teaching a music master class at a conservatory and working at a studio, according to his mother. He was also said to be working on music for a film at the time of his death.
