'Top Gun: Maverick' Officially Certified Fresh With Near Perfect Rotten Tomatoes Score

The highly anticipated sequel Top Gun: Maverick has just received its first critical review, garnering the film a near-perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The long-overdue film starring titular actor Tom Cruise appears to be quite the crowd-please receiving a score of 97%. Paramount Pictures took to Twitter to announce the score for the Joseph Kosinski-directed film. As of writing, there have been 90 reviews for the film with only three negative critiques, signaling great support for the film. Top Gun: Maverick follows a new group of fighter pilot recruits who train under Cruise's character Captain Pete "Maverick" Mitchell. His character continues to find ways to stay in the sky, despite his superiors' attempt to ground him. It has been over 30 years since Cruise has found himself back in the F-18 for a final ride.

Amongst 2022's highest-grossing releases, Top Gun: Maverick is slated to have the highest score with The Batman coming in at 85% rating and Doctor Strange in the Multivers of Madness coming in with 74% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Top Gun: Maverick arrives in theaters on May 27, 2022.
