Fans of the late country singer Toby Keith had an emotional day after seeing his daughter, Krystal Keith, step in for him to accept his honorary degree from the University of Oklahoma.

The official Instagram account for Keith shared photos from the special event, with Krystal decked out in a graduation robe with red accents and a cap. The caption read, "Toby learned he would be receiving an honorary degree from @uofoklahoma last fall, and yesterday, @krystalkeith accepted it on his behalf at the commencement ceremony," along with congratulations for everyone graduating from the university this year.

Many fans shared how happy they were that Keith found out about the degree before his death, although they also lamented that he couldn't be there to accept it.

One wrote, "So glad he knew about it and I am sure he knew you all would be there for him!❤️," while another commented, "He was Oklahoma proud. So happy he was honored by the School he loved and supported! ❤️."

The emotional responses from fans went on as they remembered Keith as a person and musical artist, such as someone who said, "He was just the best.. I still can’t get over him being gone.. Thank You to his family for sharing him.."

"What a man, what a legend, what a father," and "He will always be in our hearts. He was one amazing man," were just a couple of other replies from fans sharing their appreciation for Keith.

Born in Oklahoma, Keith went to Villanova University for a year before he kickstarted his music career, later receiving an honorary degree. But he had a strong connection to the University of Oklahoma, as he was a big fan of the school's sports teams and often attended games. Additionally, all three of Keith's kids, Krystal, Shelley, and Stelen, graduated from the University of Oklahoma.
