‘The Originals’: What You Need to Know for Season 4

Family always comes first on The Originals. But when Season 4 premieres Friday, the Mikaelson family is in a very precarious position — and may need outside help to survive.

The fourth season begins with a five-year time jump from the events at the end of last year. A prophecy of doom hung over the Mikaelsons all through Season 3, and in the finale, much of it came true.

Klaus (Joseph Morgan), Elijah (Daniel Gillies), Kol (Nathaniel Buzolic), and Rebekah (Claire Holt) were all doomed in different ways, so their witch sister Freya (Riley Voelkel) sent them all into a deep sleep until she could find a way to save them.

Helping the cause is Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin), but she’s been on the road hiding herself and daughter Hope from the family’s many enemies.

When she finally returns to New Orleans five years later, will she have something that can aid the Mikaelsons? Or perhaps will her now-powerful daughter be the key?

The Originals Season 4 premieres Friday, March 17 at 8 p.m. on The CW.
