Test your filmmaking skills in Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Later this week, you will have the chance to test out your filmmaking skills thanks to a competition down in Kalamazoo.

The Kalamazoo Film Society is bringing back its Kazoo 48 Hour Film Festival for a fifth year starting on April 5. Participants will have 48 hours starting on Friday at 6 p.m. to create a one to six-minute film that must meet the different category challenges.

The challenge categories will be announced after filmmakers register. The challenge categories will be genre, line of dialogue, prop, location and character. Entries must also provide an estimated rating from general audience to rated R.

“We hope to see a major increase in filmmakers this year. Michigan has no limit on its talent and we are excited to be offering a grant to bring Kazoo 48 its biggest year yet” Dhera Strauss, the president of the Kalamazoo Film Society, said.

Films must be submitted by 6 p.m. on April 7 to qualify for the competition. There will be two different judging groups depending on if you’re an amateur or professional filmmaker. Winners in each category will also receive a golden kazoo trophy.

The film society will showcase selected films at a screening at Kalamazoo 10 movie theater on April 25. Registration for the competition ends on Friday at noon. For more information or to register for the competition, click here.
