Tennessee whiskey: George Dickel unveils new entry to award-winning bottled in bond series

The latest addition to the acclaimed George Dickel Bottled in Bond series will hit shelves in the coming weeks.

The new George Dickel Bottled in Bond Spring 2011, aged 12 years, is the fifth release of an award-winning series, and this latest iteration is already following in its predecessors' footsteps.

Though its public release is not yet official, this latest bottled-in-bond whiskey from Cascade Hollow Distilling Co. in Tullahoma, Tennessee, was awarded Double Gold at April's San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

Director of George Dickel and Luxury Whiskey Nicole Austin, who led the first whiskies in the series, led this vintage.

In 2019, Austin and Cascade Hollow debuted the George Dickel Bottled in Bond series to rave reviews, with the inaugural release earning the nod for "Whisky of the Year" from Whisky Advocate. It was also the top-rated American Whiskey of 2019 per Wine Enthusiast.

"Something that makes this series so special is that whisky fans have the rare opportunity to try expertly crafted bottled in bond offerings at a great price," said Austin in a media statement from Cascade Hollow.

Indeed, its suggested retail price is $44.99.

Starting May 2024, George Dickel Bottled in Bond Spring 2011, Aged 12 Years, will begin rolling out in stores.

The Bottled in Bond Act of 1897 was initially passed to guarantee authenticity and quality in spirit production. To merit the bottled-in-bond distinction, distilled spirits must adhere to a special set of regulations from the federal government-regulated Standards of Identity for Distilled Spirits. It mandates, for example, that spirits with the designation must be created and aged in one location and bottled at 100 proof.

"If you're a fan of the category, you know the designation requires the liquid to be from just one distillation season, among other regulations," Austin said. "Our bottled-in-bond offerings are a testament to the quality of our inventory and the commitment at Cascade Hollow to consistently produce outstanding whisky."

This entry into the Bottled in Bond series taps into barrels from a spring distilling season, and has notes of overripe cherries, toasted oak and a lingering finish of roasted nuts. As with preceding George Dickel Bottled in Bond releases, this edition has a mash bill of 84% corn, 8% rye and 8% malted barley.
