Teen's Reaction to Using a LandLine Phone for the First Time Goes Viral on TikTok

Many kids these days have never even seen a landline before.

Before cell phones, people relied on telephones that were connected to walls by cords in order to call each other.

While these landline phones still exist, not many people have them lying around, with the majority only using cell phones

Some young people growing up now have never even seen a landline phone before, let alone used one, which is why one teenage girl's reaction to dialing on one went viral.

TikTok user lmhurd1 posted a video of her kids in awe when they were able to dial a landline and call her cell phone.

When the older girl took the phone off the hook, she was stunned to hear the dial tone, saying, "It's actually working!"

In response, her mom bluntly said, "Yeah, it's hooked. It's a phone..."

Amazed, the girl asked if she could dial her mother's number, while the younger daughter stared wide-eyed.

After dialing the number, the teenager said, "What do I do now?"

Her mom instructed her to "put it up to your ear," before they all heard the cell phone ringing upstairs.

The video then cut to another landline phone, with the younger daughter holding it up her ear while the other dialed her own cell phone number.

The amazement continued as the cell phone rang, and once she picked up, the two girls said "Hi" to each other a few times from different sides of the room.

At the end, they didn't know how to hang up the phone until their mom said, "You just put it down."

Many people found the video hilarious and shared their reactions in the comments, saying things like, "Omg I thought y’all was in a museum and not someone’s house."

Another person suggested she show the girls a rotary phone, while one said, "This is cool to see their excitement. It's crazy how the younger generation will never experience some of the things we grew up with."

According to Statista, in 2004, over 90% of adults in the United States lived in houses with a landline. By 2021, that number dropped to 36.7%, and there are very few that have only a landline nowadays.
