Or so it would seem in a new image from Warner Bros.’ upcoming supervillain origin story “Joker.”Posted by director Todd Phillips, the black and white pic shows “Joker” star Joaquin Phoenix sitting in front of a vanity mirror applying the white face paint Batman’s archnemesis is known for. I’ve been asked this a lot. Just assumed people knew. Sorry,” Phillips said in response to one follower asking about the film’s MPAA rating. The more you know!Set in 1981, “Joker” tells a story about how a failed, highly unstable stand up comic breaks bad and turns into the psychotic arch criminal who has terrorized Gotham since “Batman” issue No. 1 back in 1940.Along with Phoenix, the film also stars Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy, Marc Maron, Bill Camp, Glenn Fleshler, Shea Whigham, and Brett Cullen and Thomas Wayne (AKA Batman’s dad).
