Stroudsburg High School theater to perform ‘The Prom’

STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— It’s the time of year for Spring musicals and high school students at one local school are getting ready to hit the stage to show off their talents for the community.

28/22 News Reporter Sydney Kostus stopped by rehearsal for Stroudsburg High School’s musical “The Prom” taking place on April 13 and 14.

Finding the perfect pitch and correcting the steps. It’s practice that these students at Stroudsburg High School have been putting in for countless hours all for their performance of the musical “The Prom.”

“There are so many people involved. We have all of the pit, the directors, the cast, the stage crew, they’re a huge part of it. We have these amazing sets,” said Clodagh Conboy, a senior at Stroudsburg High School.

Taking part on stage is much more than you think. Learning lines and songs is just the beginning.

“It’s a lot of conditioning and working out, which a lot of people don’t really see behind the scenes and that’s something like blood, sweat, and tears that we all kind of like bond and share over each other,” added Gabrielle Sanchez, a junior at Stroudsburg High School.

The musical is about an Indiana high schooler who wasn’t allowed to take her girlfriend to the prom so Broadway stars step in to fight the injustice.

“Stroudsburg has been able to do two great musicals in the past years, both Shrek and Beauty and the Beast, but they’re known stories, right? So I’m very excited to perform ‘The Prom’ for the public to share with them a story that the majority of people do not know about,” explained Julian Gajewski, a senior at Stroudsburg High School.

For some of the students, it’s their first big performance.

“They had a large graduating class last year, which meant that a lot of them up there right now with parts, it’s their first year with a part, some of them it’s their first show so they really rose to the occasion, and put in all the work,” said Max Kubiak, the director of Stroudsburg High School Musical.

Many are eager to share months of hard work on stage, showcasing young local talent.

“Showing them, this part of me, this very expressive character, that they don’t see me a lot in so I’m excited for that,” said Niceidy Green, a senior at Stroudsburg High School.

Opening night for the musical is Friday with performances also taking place Saturday and Sunday.

You can buy tickets for Stroudsburg’s “The Prom” the musical at the school office or before the shows this weekend.
