Steve Buscemi the Victim of a Random Attack in New York City

Actor Steve Buscemi is one of the latest victims of random attacks in New York City, punched by a man while he was walking in Midtown Manhattan on Wednesday, May 8.

The Boardwalk Empire star's publicist confirmed the news, saying in a statement to the New York Post, “Steve Buscemi was assaulted in Mid-Town Manhattan, another victim of a random act of violence in the city."

Buscemi's publicist clarified that the actor is "OK and appreciates everyone’s well wishes" but added that he is also "incredibly sad for everyone that this has happened to while also walking the streets of New York.”

A witness of the attack said that they saw Buscemi walking with a woman around noon, and then "through the corner of the window I saw him trip and fall backwards."

After the attack, Buscemi's face and left eye swelled up and he was taken to be treated at Bellevue Hospital. Police are still looking for the assailant.

Buscemi reportedly lives in Brooklyn but will likely be away from the city for some time as he films for the second season of Netflix's popular show Wednesday, joining the show as a new series regular. The series just started production in Ireland.

The attack on Buscemi comes just over a month after his Boardwalk Empire co-star Michael Stuhlbarg was randomly attacked by a man who hit him on the back of his neck with a rock. The man was caught and arrested by police soon after.

Many more individuals, both famous and not, have also reportedly been victims of random attacks like this throughout NYC. Another celebrity who allegedly suffered a similar attack was Bethenny Frankel, who shared on social media earlier this year that she had been randomly punched outside a bakery in the Upper West Side.
