Stella McCartney presented her Fall/Winter 2022 runway show at Pompidou Centre during Paris Fashion Week earlier this year. The chosen location was commemorative of American painter and sculptor Frank Stella, who was the source of inspiration for the FW22 range. The collection, dubbed "STELLA BY STELLA," reinterpreted the celebrated artist's artworks through tailored essentials and bold accessories.

Stella's minimalist and maximalist abstract prints, graphics, and sculptural shapes are incorporated across forest-friendly midi dresses, textured knits, tailored shirts, velvet knee-high cowboy boots, fur-free coats, and vegan bags. Garments feature electric hues of purple and blue, evoking the now 86-year-old artist's traditional motifs and popular color palettes. Elsewhere, the eclectic line-up highlights sustainable innovation through vegan leather, faux fur, recycled nylon, polyester and regenerative wool.

McCartney has been a lifelong fan of Stella's art, who she had the chance to interview in 2014. In the discussion, the artist told McCartney, "I wasn't thinking of becoming an artist. I just wanted to make things and paint for a while," which inspired her love for abstractionism and crafted silhouettes. The FW22 range reimagines various artworks by the artist, including V Series (1968), Swan Engraving III (1982), Ahab (1988), and Spectralia (1994).

Actor and vegan activist Sadie Sink starred in the FW22 campaign. Lensed by Theo Wenner, Sink is seen amongst Stella's sculptures at The Ranch gallery in Montauk.
