What happened to Commander Cody in Star Wars: The Bad Batch?

As revealed in Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 2 episode “The Solitary Clone,” Commander Cody loyally served the Galactic Empire for a time but began to have doubts. He was said to have “deserted” the Empire, but the person who claimed he deserted was an Imperial antagonist, making many believe his claim to be false.

In the episode, a lot of focus is put on Crosshair, the only member of Clone Force 99, who ended up staying loyal to the Galactic Empire for a significant before his defection years later. Cody was depicted in the episode to be the commanding officer of Crosshair, and he led Crosshair and the rest of his men on a mission to Desix, a former Separatist controlled-planet to rescue a captured Imperial governor, named Grotton. The rescue mission ended up becoming a success.

After rescuing Grotton, however, Commander Cody attempted to ensure a peaceful resolution between Desix’s former governor Tawni Ames and the Galactic Empire. However, Cody’s attempt failed as he witnessed Crosshair execute Ames on Grotton’s orders, even though Ames surrendered herself to the Empire. Cody’s eyes finally opened, and he realized that the Empire was not really fighting for peace and order, as he strongly believed, and soon after, he deserted them.

Commander Cody, was not seen again after that for the rest of the show, leaving his ultimate fate unknown. However, there is a chance that he could likely be in hiding like other former clone troopers who resisted Order 66, such as Captain Rex.
