Disney will continue riding their own coattails by making another one of their most popular park rides into a movie with Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec penning the script.

The Hollywood Reporter dropped the exclusive that Appelbaum and Nemec - the duo behind Citadel and Cowboy Bebop - are set to write the movie with Jonathan Eirich in the producer's chair.

Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell of Safehouse Pictures join him, with Ryan Halprin of Rideback executive producing.

Disney has a catalog of films inspired by the rides in their parks, most recently including the Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson-led Jungle Cruise and Haunted Mansion, starring LaKeith Stanfield, Rosario Dawson, Owen Wilson, Tiffany Haddish, Danny DeVito, Jamie Lee Curtis, Chase Dillon and Jared Leto.

It's an interesting trend to follow, considering neither Jungle Cruise nor Haunted Mansion made waves at the box office. Jungle Cruise's $200 million budget manifested into $220.8 million worldwide, with Haunted Mansion's $150 million budget reaping just $117.4 million.

It seems their eyes are still firmly on the billions their Pirates of the Caribbean movies have made.

Space Mountain first hit Florida's Walt Disney World in 1975 and travelled across North America to California in 1977, becoming a staple now in Disney's parks around the world.

The film's plot details are yet to be revealed, but the ride's description states that it's an outer space-themed indoor rollercoaster. The ride's whole shtick is its near-complete darkness, which gives riders the experience of hurtling through space. It doesn't have any characters or narrative, so Appelbaum and Nemec are going to have to get creative.
