When Joe Jonas filed for divorce from ex-wife Sophie Turner in September 2023, the world was taken aback. After all, in addition to the two having a seemingly great marriage with two young kids, the filing also came with a series of accusations. Now, months after it all went down, Turner is speaking her truth.

Talking to British Vogue as their newest cover star, the Game of Thrones alum remembered the harrowing days that followed Jonas’ filing. “I mean, those were the worst few days of my life,” Turner remembered. At the time, Turner was filming a new TV series, named Joan, in the U.K.

“I remember I was on set, I was contracted to be on set for another two weeks so I couldn’t leave,” she detailed. “My kids were in the States and I couldn’t get to them because I had to finish Joan.”

Turner then went on to address the rumors spread about her, including the TMZ source that claimed she was a “party girl.” “She likes to party, he likes to stay at home,” the source alleged at the time. “They have very different lifestyles.”

“It hurt because I really do completely torture myself over every move I make as a mother – mum guilt is so real!” Turner said of the comments. “I just kept having to say to myself, ‘None of this is true. You are a good mum and you’ve never been a partier.'”

As for how the rumors spread in the first place, it seems Turner still hasn’t wrapped her head around it. “I mean, it’s unfathomable the amount of people that will just make s— up and put it up based on a picture,” she said. “A picture might tell a thousand words, but it’s not my story. It felt like I was watching a movie of my life that I hadn’t written, hadn’t produced, or starred in.”

“It was shocking,” she added. “I’m still in shock.”

At the time, Turner has no choice but to look to her coworkers and co-stars in Joan for support. “They were my emotional support people, my family,” she said. “I really don’t know what I would have done without them.”

That included the support of Ruth Kenley-Letts, the show’s executive producer, who seemed as infuriated as Turner with the situation. “It was absolutely shocking what happened to her. The paparazzi were relentless,” Kenley-Letts said. “I remember we were shooting in Spain, on the side of a mountain in the middle of nowhere, and they managed to get a photo of Sophie.”

“I just couldn’t believe the lies that I read, that she was somehow out partying,” she remembered. “And I knew they were lies because I was with her. I’d been with her for five months straight.”

As for how Turner is doing now, it seems the actress has recovered from the whirlwind scandal (despite the divorce not yet being final). “Now that I’m back home, I’m actually the happiest I’ve been in a really long time,” Turner told the outlet. “I’m starting over again, rediscovering what I like to do, who I like to be with.”
