Slipknot donned 1999-style red jumpsuits and masks for their first concert of 2024 on Thursday (April 25th), kicking off a year-long 25th anniversary celebration of their classic self-titled album. The show also marked the masked metal act’s first gig with its new drummer, presumed to be ex-Sepultura stickman Eloy Casagrande.

The club show at Pappy & Harriet’s Palace in Pioneertown, California, was booked as a warm-up gig for Slipknot’s co-headlining set at the Sick New World festival in Las Vegas on Saturday (April 27th).

At one point during the concert, frontman Corey Taylor exclaimed, “Tonight it doesn’t matter where you came from, it doesn’t matter when you were born. This year is 19-fucking-99. We’re going to play you some songs from beyond that year, but goddamn it, it all started in ’99 and it is starting again here tonight.”

Slipknot’s 15-song set featured five tunes from the 1999 self-titled effort, including “Eyeless,” “Prosthetics,” “Wait and Bleed,” “Spit It Out,” and “Surfacing.” The band also played favorites like “People = Shit,” “Psychosocial,” and “Duality.”

As mentioned, the show was the band’s first performance with their new drummer, following the ouster of Jay Weinberg last last year. While the new man behind the kit was obviously masked for the Pioneertown show, various clues over the last few months have pointed to Eloy Casagrande, who abruptly left Sepultura earlier this year.

If Slipknot’s drummer is indeed Casagrande, he would be part of a bizarre serious of transactions that resulted in him leaving Sepultura for Slipknot; Grayson Nekrutman exiting Suicidial Tendencies for Sepultura; and Weinberg joining Suicidal Tendencies after his dismissal from Slipknot.

As of now, Slipknot are slated to play a series of US festivals, including Sick New World, Welcome to Rockville, Sonic Temple, Louder Than Life, and Aftershock, with tickets available here. They also have a couple of shows in Mexico booked for November, as well as a UK/European tour slated for December (get tickets here).
