Simu Liu Rushes to Jennifer Lopez’s Defense Amid Questions of Marital Strife with Ben Affleck
Simu Liu wasted no time rushing to Jennifer Lopez’s defense amid insensitive questions regarding reported difficulties in her marriage with Ben Affleck.
While promoting their new Netflix movie, Atlas, in Mexico City, one journalist overstepped and asked Lopez if there was any truth to rumors of marital strife between herself and Affleck. As Lopez laughed uncomfortably, event organizers quickly worked to shut the question down and move swiftly along.
Narrowing her eyes into a steely glare, Lopez told the reporter, “You know better than that.” Perhaps sensing things were about to take a turn, Liu jumped in to defend Lopez.
"You know what doesn't get mentioned enough, if I could just end on one thing," Liu offered, "is that Jen is a producer on this movie—and the reason why I'm here and the reason why Sterling [K. Brown] was in this beautiful movie, is because Jen cares."
Recent Oscar-nominee Brown stars in Atlas alongside Lopez, who plays a scientist with a deep mistrust of AI who must embark on a mission to rescue a robot with whom she shares a mysterious past. Liu plays the dastardly villain trying to stop Lopez's campaign.
"Jen cares about things like representation and diversity,” Liu continued. “She's a boss, and she's an incredible creative, and an icon, and that's what I think we should celebrate her for today."
Though recent reports have alleged Lopez and Affleck are experiencing difficulties, Lopez has been photographed wearing her wedding ring throughout her Atlas press tour.
