Kevin Spacey has been slowly trying to make his way back to Hollywood after a series of sexual assault accusations by more than 30 men derailed his career. Even though his court cases in the U.S. and the U.K. have cleared him of any wrongdoing, the entertainment industry has largely stayed away from him — until now. Sharon Stone and Liam Neeson are taking a controversial stance by supporting his return to Hollywood.

In the wake of the recent docuseries, Spacey Unmasked, airing on Max, Stone, Neeson and other celebrities have stepped forward to defend their friend. In the documentary, the former House of Cards star is accused of sexual misconduct by 10 men, but the court system on both sides of the pond has cleared him. In 2022, Spacey was found not liable for sexual misconduct after Anthony Rapp brought a $40 million case against him for allegedly assaulting him in 1986 when he was 14 and Sapcey was 26. In 2023, the U.K. courts gave Spacey a not guilty verdict for nine sexual assault charges against him from four men, spanning between 2001 and 2013.

Stone blamed Spacey’s career success for making him a victim of other people’s “secret agendas.” She told The Telegraph, “I can’t wait to see Kevin back at work. He is a genius. He is so elegant and fun, generous to a fault, and knows more about our craft than most of us ever will.” While that high praise is nice, she doubled down on the idea that Hollywood wannabes were the problem because “they are blaming him for not being able to come to terms with themselves for using him and negotiating with themselves because they didn’t get their secret agendas.” That might be a tough statement for one of Spacey’s alleged victims to read, though.

Neeson didn’t dive as deeply into the allegation as Stone did, but he gushed about Spacey’s talent. “I was deeply saddened to learn of these accusations against him. Kevin is a good man and a man of character,” he shared. “He’s sensitive, articulate, and non-judgmental, with a terrific sense of humor. He is also one of our finest artists in the theatre and on camera. Personally speaking, our industry needs him and misses him greatly.”

Deadline is suggesting that the A-listers are a part of Spacey’s coordinated PR campaign to rehab his image and sweep the latest round of accusations from the docuseries under the rug. The U.K. Channel 4, which produced the documentary stands by its research telling The Telegraph, “Spacey Unmasked is an important film exploring the balance of power and inappropriate behavior in a work environment, aiming to give a voice to those who have previously been unable to speak out.”

As for Spacey, who came out as gay amid the original 2017 accusation by Rapp, has denied every allegation, but does admit to a somewhat less-than-stellar past. “I take full responsibility for my past behavior and my actions, but I cannot and will not take responsibility or apologize to anyone who’s made up stuff about me or exaggerated stories about me,” he said in a recent interview on the Dan Wootton Outspoken show. Spacey has done a few small films in the last few years in Europe, but Hollywood hasn’t rolled out the welcome mat again… but he keeps trying.
