Shannen Doherty wishes her mom a happy Mother's Day from a hospital bed: 'I only bring you to the best places'

Like many celebrities, Shannen Doherty spent Mother’s Day with her mom on Sunday and gave her a proper Instagram shout-out — but they weren’t exactly celebrating at Nobu Malibu.

The Beverly Hills, 90210 actress is recovering from reconstructive surgery and spent the day with her mother, Rosa, in the hospital. Doherty shared a photo with her mom, thanking her for “always being there.”

Happy Mother’s Day mom. I only bring you to the best places…..hospital food..yum. I love you. Thank you for always being there. I’d write more but pain pills are kicking in. @themamarosa #reconstruction

Last week, Doherty shared a picture with a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon revealing that she was going to have surgery.

Doherty first opened up about her breast cancer diagnosis in 2015 and has been documenting her journey over the past three years. The 47-year-old actress went through chemotherapy and radiation before announcing that she was in remission in April 2017.

Moments. They happen. Today was and is a moment. What does remission mean? I heard that word and have no idea how to react. Good news? YES. Overwhelming. YES. Now more waiting. As every single one of my fellow cancer family knows, the next five years is crucial. Reoccurrences happen all the time. Many of you have shared that very story with me. So with a heart that is certainly lighter, I wait. In the meantime, decisions. Reconstruction which is several surgeries. Decision on taking a pill for the next five years that comes with its own set of problems and side effects. I am blessed, I know that. But for now…. remission. The Heathers star has praised her family, especially her mom, for helping her through hard times.

“Thank God I have her and thank God she is there,” Doherty told Entertainment Tonight. “She is so strong, and my mom is like a steel magnolia. She is a Southern girl, and she puts on this very strong face with me. She is constantly looking stuff up, and, you know, she will force-feed me Gatorade chips.”

She added, “Her and my husband tag-team. It’s amazing. They’ve really come together to take care of me.”

Doherty’s bestie, Sarah Michelle Gellar, commented on the Mother’s Day hospital photo, writing, “Happy Mother’s Day Rosa. The Prinze family loves @themamarosa.”
