Mother's Day: 4 times celebrities blew their moms away with outrageous gifts
When it comes to gifts, it’s the thought that counts. But who says the gift and the thought can’t be equally fabulous? Certainly not celebs, who frequently show their family matriarchs love with elaborate gifts to pay them back for all the support they received growing up.
On this Mother’s Day, take a look at several celebrities who’ve delivered and documented it.
1. Mila Kunis
The Bad Moms star treated her mom, Elvira Kunis, to a home renovation, making over the condo her parents have lived in for more than 20 years, on an April 2017 episode of My Houzz. Mila’s dad, Mark, benefited too, but it was Elvira who immediately broke into tears at the sight of her revamped digs. How sweet is that?
The same thing happened when Kunis’s husband, Ashton Kutcher, gave his parents’ home a new look on a May 2015 episode of the same show. Mom Diane Kutcher was left speechless, although she made some emotional gasps.
2. Rihanna
The “Love on the Brain” singer shocked her mom, Monica Braithwaite, when they visited a beautiful house, supposedly to do a joint interview with Oprah, and then Ri-Ri presented her mother with the key. Bonus: Oprah was actually there! The whole thing was part of a 2012 episode of Oprah’s Next Chapter.
“I wanted to do this for you for a very long time,” Rihanna told her mom. “You have been such an amazing mother, example, soldier, and you get to walk away with the key to this house tonight.”
3. Tyrese Gibson
Back in 2000, Gibson also turned to Oprah for help gifting his mom a house. Priscilla Murray Gibson thought she was attending a live taping of The Oprah Winfrey Show because her daughter had won tickets. Instead, Tyrese, then an MTV star, came out from behind the stage. The tears quickly began to flow, and then Tyrese made his announcement. There were hugs and tissues everywhere.
Incredibly, the Fate of the Furious actor showed his mama some love again in 2017, when he declared on Instagram that he had bought her an abode for another day with special meaning.
4. The Rock
Dwayne Johnson, who’s famously feuded with his The Fate of the Furious co-star Gibson, presented his own mom, Ata Johnson, with a new car for Christmas in 2012. Photos that Johnson shared on Facebook show that she definitely approved.
We imagine all of their siblings continue to worry that they’ll never be able to compete.
