See St. Joseph: out of this world performances and parties

Apr. 25—The weekend promises to be entertaining for kids and adults with concerts, sleepovers, galas and much more. Check out this week's edition of See St. Joseph.

The Story Collective is having a slumber party this Friday, April 26, but it's not for humans, it's for toys. Join the local bookstore for its very first Stuffy Sleepover. Kids can come for story time with their best stuffed buddies. They'll receive a nametag for their toys and cuddle in for a story before tucking their stuffed toys in for the night. On Saturday morning, come back to the shop to pick up their friends and see all the things they did the night before. There will also be another story time at 11 a.m. Saturday morning kids and stuffed toys are welcome to join in. There is no cost for this event and kids of all ages are welcome. The slumber party shenanigans begin at 5:30 p.m. Friday at the Story Collective, 114 S. Seventh St.

High Tops Lounge will be raging for a cause from morning to night on Saturday, April 27, with the Healing Sounds Concert. Several artists and bands will be coming together to spread awareness of mental health and addiction. This concert will feature music as well as resources for those interested from the Family Guidance Center. Adoptable pets also will be on hand. The concert kicks off at 10 a.m. Saturday and goes until 11 p.m. at High Tops Lounge, 6112 King Hill Ave.

With springtime comes rainbows, and with rainbows comes the 46th annual Pot of Gold Arts Gala and Auction beginning at 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, at the Albrecht-Kemper Museum, 2818 Frederick Ave. With the help of volunteers, sponsors and donors, the auction is a signature event for the museum. Since its inception in 1978, it has supported the museum's operating budget, education initiatives and special programs. This year, the museum is celebrating with an "Out of This World, Intergalactic Gala." Guests are encouraged to dress in elegant space-themed attire. Come as a classy representative from Earth or as your favorite sci-fi character. There will be live, silent and online auctions, dinner, dancing and more. A gourmet dinner will be served by Joanie's Catering. After dinner will be the live auction, followed by an after-party where guests can dance the night away with tunes provided by Bi Chops Vintage Vinyl DJ. For tickets and more information, visit the museum's website at www.albrecht-kemper.org/pog.

St. Joseph has been experiencing a lot of rain recently, but not to fear, blue skies are on the way with "Evil Woman: The American Electric Light Orchestra." The original Electric Light Orchestra last toured America in 1978, so lots of people missed out on seeing their favorite band in concert, but, the music of Jeff Lynne and company is about as sophisticated as popular music ever got. For fans of the hit English band of the '70s, this show hits every expectation. Don't miss this performance at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at the Missouri Theater, 717 Edmond St.

Whether you and the kiddos are looking forward to story time or you and your friends are excited to dance the night away, St. Joseph has plenty to offer this weekend.
