‘Saturday Night Live’ #TBT: College Basketball Is a Scary Place

March Madness is upon us! The NCAA men’s basketball tournament kicked off this week, and millions of fans will be glued to their screens for the next few weeks to watch shocking upsets, root for Cinderella teams, and check their online brackets.

The world of college basketball isn’t all fun and games, at least in this Saturday Night Live throwback clip from 2013 proves. Host Melissa McCarthy is unmatched when it comes to playing angry people (see her Sean Spicer impression from recent weeks). And in this sketch, she embodies the tough, abusive women’s basketball coach Sheila Kelly (in a parody of Rutgers coach Mike Rice), who throws basketballs at her players, threatens them with a T-shirt gun, and forces them to serve her meals.

When a news reporter confronts Sheila with footage of her hurling a toaster at a player, she shrugs.

“When someone blows by you, you’re toast,” she explains. “And when you’re toast, you get hit by a toaster.”

Imagine what happens if you missed a dunk!
