A Quitter’s Paradise is an intergenerational novel that follows Eleanor as she struggles to grasp and grieve her mother’s recent death. And, as she “wends her way forward,” the novel shares glimpses of her parents’ past when they emigrated from Taiwan to start a whole new life for them are their two daughters.

But, as their business grows, the struggles of being parents only build. “Rita and Jing Liu remain confounded by the process of raising their two daughters,” the description reads. “How do you dole out affection, discipline, protection, and care in a strange place, in a foreign tongue?”

In the Amazon reviews, many readers are seen raving over Chang’s literary debut. “A raw, authentic, funny story touching on the immigrant experience, mental health, and family dynamics,” wrote one reviewer. “Such an important and lesser-told story reflecting on how the ‘American Dream’ manifests for many Asian Americans and immigrants.”

In the comments on Parker’s video, followers can’t wait to get their hands on the book. “As ever, you really do select the best books for us,” one wrote. “Thanks you for picking such a beautiful story 💗,” echoed another.
