Sacha Baron Cohen and his wife Isla Fisher have announced their plans to divorce just short of their 14th wedding anniversary.

The shocking revelation comes amid Baron Cohen’s war of words with his former The Brothers Grimsby co-star Rebel Wilson. In her new memoir, Rebel Rising, Wilson alleged that Baron Cohen treated her poorly on the set of the 2016 raunchy comedy. Wilson claims Baron Cohen attempted to pressure her into performing a nude scene throughout production. At one point, while improvising a separate scene, he allegedly asked Wilson to “stick your finger up [his] ass.”

However, it doesn’t seem that Wilson’s allegations have anything to do with the dissolution of the longtime partnership, as sources told Page Six that the couple has been separated since last year. After the outlet reached out to Baron Cohen and Fisher for comment in regards to their “separate lives,” the stars posted identical statements to their individual Instagram stories around 1 p.m. on Friday.

“After a long tennis match lasting over 20 years, we are finally putting our racquets down," the couple stated, superimposed over a photo of them embracing in matching tennis outfits. “In 2023, we jointly filed to end our marriage. We have always prioritized our privacy, and have been quietly working through this change. We forever share in our devotion and love for our children. We sincerely appreciate you respecting our family’s wish for privacy."

In a possible sign of things to come, it was reported that Baron Cohen met with high-profile divorce attorney Laura Wasser in late 2023. Wasser has presided over many contentious cases, having represented Johnny Depp in his divorce from Amber Heard; Angelina Jolie in her divorce from Brad Pitt; and Maria Shriver in her divorce from Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Baron Cohen and Fisher met at a party in 2001 and married in 2010. They share three children, but have largely kept their family out of the public spotlight.

During their partnership, Baron Cohen often credited Fisher with being the family’s anchor while he was away filming his movies, many of which involved performing real-life, dangerous stunts. But that seems to have taken a toll. Back in 2020, she told the Herald Sun that she felt "lucky" to not know about her husband's antics until well after the fact.

"I don't see that he was at a gun rally until he's home safe,” Fisher said, referring to a scene in Borat: Subsequent Movie Film. “I think he's learnt the hard way that if he gives me the information up front, that I put the kibosh on it. I find out what's happened afterwards, and that's how I can sleep at night, otherwise I'd be too worried.”
