Was it not so golden with the "Golden Bachelor" and his bride?

Just four months after the world's first "Golden Bachelor" Gerry Turner of Indiana proposed, then married Theresa, they have announced their divorce on Good Morning America.

The two were rumored to be living separately and confirmed those rumors Friday morning, saying they will be filing for divorce, but remain "best friends."

"Theresa and I have had a number of heart-to-heart conversations and we've looked closely at our living situation and so forth," Gerry said on Good Morning America's Friday, April 12 show. "We've kind of come to the conclusion mutually that it's probably time for us to dissolve our marriage."

Here's what the couple had to say about their split.

Why are Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist divorcing?

"The thing that strikes me the most in our conversations has been how dedicated both of us are to our families," Gerry said on the Friday morning broadcast. "So we look at these situations and I think we just feel like it's best for the happiness of each of us to live apart."

Gerry, 72, lives in Indiana and Theresa, 70, lives in New Jersey. The couple had plans to move to Charleston, South Carolina together, but are divorcing instead.

Sound familiar? Ironically, Gerry sent fan-favorite Faith Martin home after their hometown date at Faith's ranch, due to the fact that they have very different lifestyles and live in different states.

"We looked at homes in South Carolina, we considered New Jersey," Theresa said. "And we just looked at home after home. But we never got to the point where we made that decision."

The pair emphatically insisted they haven't fallen out of love.

"I still love this person. There's no doubt in my mind. I'm still in love with her. I root for her every day," Gerry said.

The "Golden Bachelor" stars said "I do" during a live televised event on Jan. 4, 2024, on ABC, allowing millions of viewers to tune in to the reality TV wedding event of the decade.

Held at the La Quinta Resort & Club in Southern California's Palm Springs, the wedding hosted over 150 guests, including the couple's family, friends and members of Bachelor royalty. The couples children and grandchildren made up their wedding parties.

According to USA Today, Gerry was crying before he even saw Theresa walking toward him down the aisle. But when she emerged, he really lost it.

Once the couple started sharing their vows, there was hardly a dry eye in the room.

After exchanging their vows, they put rings on each other's fingers, officiant Susan Noles told them they may now "take on the world together with all your hopes and dreams," and pronounced them man and wife.

The two shared a kiss before they turned to the crowd and raised their clasped hands in celebration.

The Hollywood Reporter: Gerry Turner revealed to have a 'Not-So-Golden' past before filming

A day before the finale premiered in November, The Hollywood Reporter released a report that potentially reveals a few thorns in "Golden Bachelor" star Gerry Turner's tale.

The show credits Gerry as a restaurateur but THR says the lead "last owned a restaurant in 1985" after selling a hamburger drive-in franchise in Iowa, according to his LinkedIn account. From there, the report says he worked various sales and management positions within the food industry.

The show also claims he retired at 55 but THR said he worked gigs installing hot tubs and doing maintenance work at a health center.

As for his love life after losing his wife, Toni, in 2017, THR interviewed his former co-worker, Carolyn (a pseudonym for the woman who requested not to be named), who claimed the two had a three-year relationship one month after his wife died.

The report said the two moved in together after 10 months, but their relationship turned rocky. She detailed Gerry's control on finances, comments on her appearance and their breakup, where Gerry is said to have kicked her out despite her having a broken foot.

Carolyn said to reporters she was going to just brush off his sudden TV gig until she saw the attention and support it was getting from the public.

THR said neither ABC nor Gerry responded to requests for comments. To read the entire report from The Hollywood Reporter, click here to view in a different browser.

In the Good Morning America interview, Theresa and Gerry insisted his rumored dating and resume history was not a part of their decision to separate.

"Gerry had already discussed that with me and explained it before the report was ever released," Theresa said. "So we were good with that."

What has 'Golden Bachelor' Gerry Turner said about his dating life following his wife's death?

The same day as the THR story, People magazine released an exclusive interview with Gerry, which detailed his love life in his own words.

The "Golden Bachelor" told reporters he attempted to date after one year of grieving the death of his high school sweetheart, but soon realized he wasn't ready every time he tried.

"I've dated a number of times since Toni's passed, more recently than back closer to when she's passed," Gerry told People magazine. "For one reason or another, the attempts didn't work out. I could give you a wide range of reasons, but it doesn't really matter."

He then stated after years of trying, he decided to give up and accepted he would be alone. Until the "Golden Bachelor" arrived. While Gerry couldn't share how his season ended at the time, he teased it “worked out” for him and Theresa.

What about 'Golden Bachelorette' lead? Could it still be contestant from Florida?

ABC confirmed on Feb. 10 the “highly anticipated” spinoff series "The Golden Bachelorette" will be coming to the network this fall. Details about casting and what day and time the show will air each week have not been released.

The lead has yet to be announced but many Bachelor Nation fans have thrown out two popular contestants from Florida as options.

Who is April Kirkwood from 'The Golden Bachelor'? Will she be the first 'Golden Bachelorette'?

April Kirkwood made it through four weeks on the show before "Golden Bachelor" Gerry Turner sent her home to Port St. Lucie.

On the show, she became a fan-favorite with her chicken references, dancing and her gift to Gerry — a calendar containing only the month of April.

Could Ellen Goltzer be ABC's first 'Golden Bachelorette?'

Another popular contestant on the show was Ellen Goltzer, a retired teacher from Delray Beach.

"She spends her time playing pickleball, golf, and card games with her two sons. Ellen also reads the newspaper, watches television and plays bocce ball with her girlfriends in her free time," according to ABC.

Goltzer won over audiences with the story of her friend Roberta, her childhood friend who passed away from cancer. She said they were fans of the flagship show and her friend pushed her to apply for the "Golden Bachelor" spinoff.

In an interview with the Palm Beach Post, she said the show was "the best experience of my life."
