The Rumored Cast of the New ‘Little Women’ Remake Has Us Freaking Out

Little Women is going big-budget! After so many reincarnations, you might think the time-honored story of four young women coming of age during Civil war-times would have lost some of its luster, but after hearing the rumored cast list for its upcoming remake, we’re practically on the edge of our seats.

Most recently remade as a three-part adaptation for PBS and starring Maya Hawke (Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke’s 19-year-old daughter), the classic Louisa May Alcott tale has seen plenty of reincarnations in its day: It’s been shot as a film no less than four times, the 1994 version of which starred such A-list names as Winona Ryder, Claire Danes, Kirsten Dunst, Christian Bale, and Susan Sarandon (just to name a few).

Now, yet another version is in the works for 2019 (one year after the novel’s 150th anniversary), and the names attached to the project thus far are A-list, to say the list.

According to Variety, Independent Spirit Award winning-director Greta Gerwig has her eye on the film, with Saoirse Ronan, Timothée Chalet, Emma Stone, and — get this — Meryl Streep all in talks to be part of the March family.

While it’s unknown as of yet who would be playing who, Stone is said to be up for the part of Beth. Given our powers of deduction, we can only assume that Streep would take Sarandon’s place as the girls’ mother, Marmee.

As you may recall, Gerwig, Ronan, and Chalet were all involved in 2017’s uber-successful Lady Bird, so the film would mark a reunion for the Academy Award-nominated trio.

Fingers crossed this buzz turns out to be true!
