Robin Wright-Led ‘The Girlfriend’ Ordered To Series At Prime Video; Olivia Cooke, Laurie Davidson & Waleed Zuaiter Also Star

The Robin Wright (House of Cards)-led The Girlfriend has been ordered to series at Prime Video with Olivia Cooke (House of the Dragon), Laurie Davidson (Mary and George), and Waleed Zuaiter (Gangs of London) also set to star. The series, to be directed by Wright, is based on Michelle Frances’ novel of the same name.

The drama follows Laura (Wright), someone who wants for nothing. She has a great career, a loving husband, Howard (Zuaiter), and her beloved only son, Daniel (Davidson). Cracks begin to show on the surface of her seemingly perfect life when Daniel brings home a girlfriend, Cherry (Cooke), who Laura becomes convinced isn’t who she says she is. Wanting to protect Daniel, Laura will do anything to prove he is being deceived. When things go from bad to deadly, the question is, is Cherry a manipulative social climber? Or is Laura paranoid and possessive? The truth is a matter of perspective…

The Girlfriend is author Frances’ debut novel released in 2018 that went on to become an international best seller. She said having Wright both star and direct the adaptation “is beyond my wildest dreams,” and goes on to call Wright “the perfect Laura.”

Imaginarium Productions and Amazon MGM Studios produce the series. Caroline Norris produces; Jonathan Cavendish, Robin Wright, Will Tennant, Phil Robertson, John Zois, Dave Clarke, Gabbie Asher and Michelle Frances executive produce. The Girlfriend is written by Gabbie Asher and Naomi Sheldon, with episodes written by Marek Horn, Ava Wong Davies, Isis Davis and Helen Kingston.
