Robert Irwin

There's a new Robert Irwin in town! The Australian conservationist revealed to fans in a new video that a newly-discovered species of snail has been officially named after him: Robert Irwin's Banded Snail, or Figuladra robertirwini.

Irwin began his announcement video with a smile, telling fans, "I've got some really exciting news. A brand new species of snail that has just been discovered has been named after me... What an honor." He then introduced the snail alongside photos, saying, "Have a look at him! Isn't he cute?"

The new snail, "previously unknown to science," was found in South East Queensland. Irwin continued talking about the news, calling the honor "particularly meaningful" and taking it as an opportunity to spotlight habitat destruction and note that it affects all species, big and small.

"I love snails, and they're definitely in need of our protection. These little legends are so cool and are a very important part of the ecosystem," he explained. Irwin then thanked the scientists involved in this discovery who named the snail after him, appropriately ending the video with a big grin on his face as he said, "Snails rule!"

Irwin's mother Terri commented, "Tremendous honour! What a special little creature!🐌," while many fans congratulated the 20-year-old, such as one who wrote, "Your pappa would be so proud of your passion, dedication and love for all animals. Keeping his legacy going. Well done mate. You have SNAILed it! 🐌🐌🐌."

"Following in your dad's footsteps.. well done man. Definitely someone with the right mindset. 🔥," said another supportive follower.

This exciting bit of news comes not long after Irwin celebrated a very different career milestone, as the young man made his runway debut at the Melbourne Fashion Festival at the start of March which had fans stunned. Now he has another accomplishment to add to the growing list!
