Long before Riz Ahmed starred in Star Wars: Rogue One and the HBO miniseries The Night Of, he was a rapper. He still is one, as well as an actor. On The Tonight Show, Ahmed performed his song “Sour Times,” which takes on terrorism and Islamophobia.
“In light of all the current events that are going on, it just seems like we’re living in really divided times,” Ahmed said. “And it really hurts. And I wrote this piece 10 years ago. And every year I keep hoping it will become irrelevant, but it seems to become more and more relevant. Sadly.”
In “Sour Times,” Ahmed talks about the factors other than religion that cause people to turn to terrorism. He says that terrorism is against the Quran and goes on to call suicide bombers terrorists.
Ahmed also questions people who believe Islam is the cause of terrorism, saying that terrorism is relatively new compared with Islam, which is one of the oldest religions in the world.
