With summer just around the corner, wearing black leather pieces can sometimes feel like a challenge that ends with sweaty results. But Rihanna’s latest look proves that wearing a black leather blazer in the warmer months is no big deal—that is if there’s enough room for sheer pieces to complete the look and keep cool.

The pop star stepped out alongside A$AP Rocky on May 16 to attend her brother’s NYU graduation dinner at the Italian restaurant Mamo and kept her look sleek for the occasion. She wore a plunging leather blazer with a knee-length, sheer black dress with romantic silk ruffle details at the hem, and accessorized with more black pieces—namely, sheer black tights, modest black pumps, a large black Lady Dior purse, and oversized black sunglasses.

A$AP Rocky went for a lighter and brighter look, wearing a powder blue two-piece suit with black buttons, a crisp white button-down shirt underneath, and a black tie. Together, the couple looked like a perfect matching set and gave a textbook example of power dressing.

While the look is a knockout on both RiRi and Rocky’s part, the “Umbrella” singer revealed that she sometimes feels her style pales in comparison to her partner’s.

“I be feeling bummy as s--- next to this man. I feel like, goddamn, I look like his assistant,” she joked while speaking with Interview magazine for its spring 2024 issue. “I’m getting on a plane. We should be in sweats. He wants to be in a full Bottega suit. I’m like, 'Why you got to do that to me?'” Rihanna added.

She doesn’t feel any competition with Rocky, though—“It’s more like I spend my time getting the kids dressed to death, and then I’m like, ‘What’s the most comfortable outfit to wear around them? What’s not going to feel uncomfortable on their face or on their body or make me feel like I can’t hold them properly?’ Moms are lazy dressers in real life.”
