Rickie Fowler says being a dad to his daughter Maya is his "main job"

Rickie Fowler loves being a girl dad to his daughter Maya Fowler.

Rickie began dating professional athlete and sports model Allison Stokke in 2017 before they married in 2019 in a ceremony in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. A few years later, Rickie and Allison welcomed their first child together, Maya, in 2021.

The professional golfer tends to keep his personal life private, including his family. Still, Allison and Maya were featured in the second season of Netflix’s Full Swing, which captured the moment Rickie won the Rocket Mortgage Classic in July 2023 after a four-year gap between winning on a PGA Tour. Afterward, he thanked his wife and daughter for their support.

“I’ve always wanted to win having Maya around,” he said in the second episode of the season. “Just being able to have the videos and pictures in that moment, that will be a special one, and hopefully there will be plenty more and ones that she’ll remember.”

Rickie also opened up about how becoming a father has changed him during an April 2024 episode of the PGA Tour Originals series Swing By with Jason Kennedy.

“It helps you realize there’s a lot bigger things in life than just the day-to-day grind," Rickie said of parenthood. “When your family’s doing well and healthy and your friends are good, that’s really all you need.”

Rickie and Allison announced their pregnancy in June 2021

Rickie and Allison revealed on social media that they were expecting their first child together in the summer of 2021. The couple shared a photo of them posing on the beach as Allison showed off her baby bump.

“Reservation for November...Fowler party of 3,” Rickie wrote in his post. “Coming in November... @rickiefowler might find himself a little outnumbered," Allison quipped on her account.

A few days later, prior to the 2021 Travelers Championship, Rickie opened up to the PGA Tour about the pregnancy announcement, noting that they were “excited” about it.

“I was waiting to be able to share with people and then that's when it starts to become real,” he explained. “We've been able to share it with friends and family a little earlier and then started to share with more people, and now everyone knows. It’s at that point where it’s pretty cool and pretty special.”

Rickie also noted that early in Allison’s pregnancy, it was important to ensure that both mom and baby were healthy.

Rickie was “looking forward” to becoming a father

Before the birth of his daughter, Rickie was open about his enthusiasm for parenthood, which he heard was "life-changing."

In his interview with PGA Tour, Rickie emphasized that Maya would be “the main thing” in his life, adding, “Everything else will take a backseat.”

“I'm looking forward to trying to manage everything, keep things as efficient as possible, and being able to spread my time between her, and family, and golf as well," he explained.

She was born in November 2021

Rickie and Allison welcomed their daughter, Maya Fowler, on Nov. 18, 2021.

The couple announced the birth of their daughter the following week, just in time for Thanksgiving Day. Their first picture on social media featured Rickie and Allison standing side-by-side as he held Maya in his hands.

“As you can see Allison & I are beyond thankful...a whole new meaning to life!!” Rickie wrote on his page. “My heart is full!!"

She supports her dad on the course

The father-daughter duo shared a sweet moment when she was a toddler. It began while Rickie was getting ready for a shot, and Maya ran over to him, asking to be picked up.

When Rickie asked if his caddie, Ricky Romano, could hold Maya, she refused to let go. In response, Rickie took a brief break to carry Maya over to Allison behind the barrier around the course.

They had a different instance at the US Open in June 2023. Allison posted several photos from the event, including one of Rickie holding Maya above his head in the air. The second picture captured Maya holding one of her dad’s clubs.

Allison and Maya also got to celebrate Rickie at the Rocket Mortgage Classic the following month.

Rickie has hopes for his daughter’s future

Maya might only be a toddler, but Rickie is manifesting a future in golf for his daughter.

On several occasions, including at the American Express in January 2023, he shared a subtle nod to the athletic path she could one day take.

Spectators spotted an American Junior Golf Association tag hanging off his golf bag, which is typically used so college coaches know the players’ graduation year.

Rickie’s tag read, “Maya Fowler 2040.”

She is her dad's "main job"

He may be a golfer by profession, but Rickie has said his role in life is to be a father to his daughter. During his episode of Swing By with Jason Kennedy in April 2024, he referred to being a dad as his “main job.”

“Obviously, continuing to build a relationship with your wife, but being a dad as well,” he explained. “Seeing Maya’s reaction and how she lights up whenever she sees Allison or me, it really makes it feel like nothing else matters.”

Rickie also noted that being a girl dad was “very special,” sharing, “I don't have a boy, but my sister has twin boys, I have plenty of friends that have little boys, but I feel like there's something with a little girl that just pulls a little harder at you.”
