'Rick and Morty' sneak peek: Susan Sarandon, coprophilia specialist

Ever since we started getting hints of what was to come in Season 3, fans of Rick and Morty have been looking forward to Pickle Rick. A riff on last year’s Tiny Rick, Pickle Rick’s ironic catchphrase already adorns bootleg merch across the internet. It’s a safe bet that co-creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland knew expectations would be high for the episode, airing Sunday, so they brought in Susan Sarandon to help raise its profile.

Hearkening back to the early days of South Park stunt-casting George Clooney, Sarandon is the biggest movie star Rick and Morty has had to date. She plays therapist Dr. Wong, who specializes in families and eating poop. Last episode, it seemed like the kids, Morty and Summer, had at least partially dealt with their emotions surrounding the divorce of their parents. Sure, they did it by murdering the weak in a post-apocalyptic hellscape, but what else would you expect from this show? Judging by the eye twitch Beth gets when asked about Rick, their mom definitely hasn’t confronted hers.

Rick and Morty airs Sundays at 11:30 p.m. on Adult Swim.
