However, any adult with a valid ID, driver's license or passport can buy recreational marijuana in Maryland, regardless of where they are from. Maryland will be the fourth state bordering Pennsylvania to legalize recreational marijuana. The previous three are Delaware, New York and New Jersey.

There are a few things to remember, though. Marijuana is still federally illegal, which means people cannot transport it across state lines. There are exceptions for people who have a medical marijuana card.

There will be a 9% sales tax on recreational cannabis in Maryland. Also, people cannot smoke weed on any public street or in a car parked in public in Maryland. Some dispensaries will offer consumption sites, but not all, and no dispensary can allow smoking indoors.

The closest recreational marijuana dispensaries to York County initially licensed for such sales are in the Westminster, Maryland area. The closest such facility to Chambersburg is in Hagerstown.
