Art and all things art-related will abound this weekend on Beach Street, as the 3rd Annual Daytona Beach Arts Fest unfolds on Saturday and Sunday in Daytona Beach.

At the heart of the event will be a juried fine arts show featuring the works of an array of Florida and regional artists offering paintings, crafts, photography and other works.

There also will be an artisan marketplace spotlighting the skills of local artists, craftsmen and tradesmen. Street art also will be highlighted, with chalk art competition that will transform sidewalks into palettes for an assortment of realistic and abstract creations.

Other diversions include a lineup of musical acts on an outdoor stage, a Volusia County Schools student art exhibit and interactive Art Haus kid zone.

Hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday; 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday. Free admission and parking.

Music rules in DeLand

In West Volusia, a different kind of celebration will unfold as the 12th Annual DeLandapalooza Original Music & Art Festival showcases local and regional music acts on Saturday in downtown DeLand.

The event will showcase more than 130 singers, rappers and bands on 20 stages throughout the historic downtown business district along Woodland Boulevard.

The lineup will spotlight an eclectic mix of genres, encompassing rock, jazz, blues, country, hip-hop, electronica, folk, Christian rock, metal and reggae.

Along with the music, the festival also will host an art show featuring the works of more than three dozen local artists. There will be an assortment of vendors, food trucks and a beer garden, too.

It runs from 1 p.m.-1 a.m. Saturday. Tickets are $15 advance, $20 at the gate. You can buy advance tickets online at ssa.cc or at Steve’s Downtown Music in DeLand and Atlantic Sounds in Daytona Beach.

Celebrate space at MOAS

If all the hubbub over the Great American Eclipse has ignited an interest in the celestial realm, you can indulge that inclination at Space Day on Saturday at the Museum of Arts & Sciences in Daytona Beach.

Touted as the museum’s biggest space-oriented event of the year, it’s an interactive family-oriented program that focuses on the science, exploration and beauty of space.

Activities include lectures, shows in the Lohman Planetarium, hands-on activities and solar observing with telescopes in the museum’s front entrance courtyard, if the weather cooperates.

For the event, the museum will offer displays and activities from organizations that include the GE Volunteers, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s ERFSEDS Rocket Club, Amateur Astronomy Club and Society of Women Engineers as well as ERAU astronomy professors.

Hours are noon-5 p.m.

The event is free for museum members or included for the museum’s regular paid admission of $19 for adults, $17 for seniors and college students; $10 for ages 6-17; free for ages 5 and under.

Pet Palooza celebrates furry friends

April is National Pet Month, so it’s a fitting time to celebrate the bond between humans and their animal companions at the 5th Annual Pet Palooza event on Sunday at Club Mosaic in Daytona Beach.

In Flagler, a Manilow tribute

The music of an enduring pop icon will be the soundtrack for “Daybreak: The Music & Passion of Barry Manilow,” a tribute show on Saturday at the Flagler Auditorium in Palm Coast.
