Camilla, Queen Consort, Prince William, Prince of Wales and Catherine, Princess of Wales

King Charles has officially appointed Queen Camilla, Prince William and Kate Middleton with history-making royal honors.

On Tuesday, April 23, Buckingham Palace announced that the king would be bestowing historic honors upon his wife, the Queen, as well as his son and daughter-in-law, the Prince and Princess of Wales.

Per Tuesday's announcement, Queen Camilla will now become the Grand Master of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, a title once held by the king's father, Prince Philip, and his grandfather, George VI.

Prince William will be the Great Master of the Most Honorable Order of the Bath, which King Charles previously held himself before he was king.

The Most Honorable Order of the Bath is awarded to members of the military or civil service for "exemplary service," according to Buckingham Palace's website.

As for Kate, the princess will be appointed as Royal Companion of The Order of the Companions of Honor, making history as the first-ever royal appointed as a Companion of Honor in the order's entire 107-year history.

Founded by King George V in 1917, The Order of the Companions of Honor recognizes outstanding achievements in the arts, sciences, medicine and public service. Other notable names having received the same honor include Sir Elton John, Sir Paul McCartney, Dame Maggie Smith and Sir David Attenborough.

The king is said to have made the first-ever Royal Companion of the Order role especially for Kate, 42, who has been a part of the royal family for 13 years.

The announcement comes in the wake of her ongoing health battle, as Princess Kate and King Charles are both currently receiving treatment for undisclosed types of cancer.
