Indigenous model and activist Quannah Chasinghorse delivered a powerful message at the 2023 Met Gala.

While Karl Lagerfeld heralded one of the greatest fashion brands of our time, the late designer also has a legacy of intolerance and discrimination as he has made several fatphobic and anti-Islamic comments in the past. Lagerfeld also publicly expressed disdain for the #MeToo movement, going so far as to send gifts to alleged abuser and defending those accused of sexual violence.

You can imagine that the theme did not resonate with some attendees. Rather than turning down her invitation, Chasinghorse decided to make a statement by wearing Lagerfeld's most hated color -- pink. The Arizona native, whose ancestry is Hän Gwich'in (from Alaska and Canada) and Oglala Lakota (from South Dakota), wore a frothy bubblegum Prabal Gurung dress. She paired her look with punk-rock Vex Latex opera gloves, adorned with swirling vines of roses and handmade Dakota jewelry.
