Priyanka Chopra Responds to Rosie O’Donnell Calling Her “the Chopra Wife” After “Very Awkward” Encounter

Priyanka Chopra has issued a response to Rosie O’Donnell calling her “the Chopra wife” and assuming she was Deepak Chopra’s daughter during an awkward encounter at Nobu. In case you missed Rosie’s TikTok, she told her followers about running into Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas at dinner, saying she went up to the couple, assumed Priyanka was the daughter of Deepak Chopra (she is not), and said, “I know your father.” While telling the story, Rosie didn’t call Priyanka by her name even though she’d presumably had ample time to look it up and instead referred to her as “the Chopra wife” and “someone Chopra.”
Due to understandable backlash, Rosie then hopped back onto Twitter to release an apology, saying, “Priyanka is her name, Priyanka, I hope I’m pronouncing that right, and I just want to apologize to her.” She also defended her assumption that Priyanka was Deepak Chopra’s daughter though, saying, “According to the comments, a lot of people thought that too.”
Priyanka issued a statement via Instagram Stories on Wednesday night in response to Rosie’s initial video, saying, “I have never taken myself so seriously to think everyone would know who I am, or my work, for that matter. But if you wanted to make a public apology for a very awkward private encounter, I think probably best to take the time to google my name before doing it or even try to reach out directly. We ALL deserve to be respected for our unique individuality and not be referred to as ‘someone’ or ‘wife,’ especially in a sincere apology. If we can learn to respect our differences in an authentic way, the world we raise our children in will be amazing.”
Priyanka ended her note reiterating, “As I’ve said before, not all Chopras are related to the great Deepak, just as not all Smiths are related to the legendary Will Smith.”
