Princess Charlene of Monaco Made Her First Royal Visit Abroad in Over a Year

Princess Charlene's return to life as a working royal continues. This week, the princess journeyed to Oslo alongside her husband, Prince Albert, and their twin children, Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella—the trip marks her first royal visit abroad since last spring.

The Monegasque royals were in Norway to attend the opening of the "Sailing the Sea of Science, Scientist and Explorer" exhibition at the Fram Museum, celebrating Albert's ancestor Prince Albert I. Crown Prince Haakon, son of King Harald V of Norway, greeted them for the event—they also reportedly had lunch with the king and Queen Sonja.

To mark the occasion, the famously stylish Charlene chose an understated black suit, with black trousers and a tailored black blazer featuring black embellished piping. The princess paired her monochromatic look with a black button down shirt and black pumps.

Last May, the princess made what was planned to be a short trip to South Africa, only to find herself unable to return home due to an ENT issue that prevented her from flying. It was six months before Charlene was ultimately able to get back to Monaco, but even then it wasn't smooth sailing for the princess. Just days after her return, the palace announced that she would be stepping back to receive treatment for exhaustion at a Swiss clinic, which lasted for four months.

It was only this May that Charlene finally began to resume public life as a royal again, attending several events around the country before yet another brief absence when she was diagnosed with COVID-19.
