Anyone who is following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle closely knows that they are making moves to cement their future. Their latest hire is clearly indicating that they want to build an empire, not a house of cards — and that’s why the Sussexes’ critics should take their rebrand seriously.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have added new positions to their communications team, and one particular hire is pretty significant. Former Director of Global Communications Miranda Barbot was internally promoted to Vice President of Programs and Media Operations which left an opening on their PR team. Instead of hiring one executive, Harry and Meghan have branched out internationally with two new positions, according to People.

Charlie Gipson, who is U.K.-based, is the couple’s new Director of Communications. It’s going to be his job to tackle the sometimes prickly relations with some European media outlets. This move signals that Harry and Meghan feel confident in their post-royal work — the Invictus Games is a great success, American Riviera Orchard is about to launch, and their reach is global. This marked shift feels so different from a year ago when it felt like the British tabloids were controlling the narrative ahead of King Charles III’s coronation. The dynamic duo has found their footing, and they have a clear focus forward.

Gipson isn’t the only hire, though. Kyle Boulia joins the Sussex team as the new Deputy Press Secretary and Director of Communications for U.S. media outlets, and his Los Angeles base should help with the couple’s ties between Hollywood and their philanthropic endeavors. He previously worked at the high-profile talent agency, UTA. With a team solidified it seems like Meghan and Harry listened to the PR experts, who were concerned less than a year ago that the couple seemed aimless after they stepped back from their royal roles.

PR expert Molly McPherson told Express UK in August 2023, “I think the problem with Harry and Meghan is that their inconsistency has led to some vulnerability so they need to settle on a brand, and it looks like that may be happening soon for Meghan.” It’s amazing what a plan and the gift of time can do — Harry and Meghan’s life in the U.S. is finally taking hold as they pave their path on their post-royal journey.
