President Biden Just Signed the 'Respect For Marriage Act'

President Joe Biden has officially signed the 'Respect for Marriage Act,' a United States federal law which grants protections to both same-sex and interracial marriages.

The House held a ceremony in acknowledgement of the new law, where Biden said "Racism, antisemitism, homophobia, and transphobia are all connected, but the antidote to hate is love. This law and the love it defends strike a blow against hate in all its forms, and that's why this law matters to every single American."

The new law repeals the Defense of Marriage Act (also known as DOMA) and requires the government to recognize the validity of same-sex marriages and interracial marriages in the U.S., while also offering protection for religious liberty. The law was introduced into the House in June this year, before it was signed into law on December 13.
