Meghan Trainor might be a boy mom, but she also has four girls close to her heart.

"I have four dog babies," the 30-year-old singer tells PEOPLE. "They are my pack of girls."

Trainor is honoring Biggie, Roo, Lilo, and Soca — who was "named after a genre of music I was raised with because my uncle is from Trinidad," she says — this National Pet Day, April 11, by teaming up with Freshpet as their first-ever celebrity ambassador.

"I did research and saw how it's so healthy, and it's made with real meat, vegetables, and fruit," Trainor says about the pet food brand. My dogs loved it; they dove right in."

When deciding how to collaborate with Freshpet, the answer was evident to Trainor. "When we were trying to figure out what we could do, I was like, 'Well, I don't know if you guys know, but I write songs, and I am a pop star,'" the "All About That Bass" singer says. "I wrote them a jingle and shot a music video with my dogs … They are the stars of the music video, and I got to be a pop star mom."

Trainor is grateful that her four canine girls get along with her two boys — Riley, 3, and Barry, 9 months.

"My kids love the dogs, and the dogs are so good to my kids," she tells PEOPLE. "There are no favorites, but Lilo — our Chihuahua — is kind of our favorite because she just loves the baby so much. This morning, I was waking up Riley, and Lilo fully jumped in his bed, and he just started cracking up."

These days, Trainor and her husband, Daryl Sabara, 31, are focused on their oldest son's next milestone: potty training.

"We are deep in potty training because we've been holding back for so long," the "Mother" singer says. "We've been avoiding this day because everyone goes, 'Wait till they're ready,' and Riley was like, 'I'm not ready.' But now we're doing it and he literally sits there and goes, 'I don't want to.' So we are on day two, and it's a nightmare."

Despite having four girl dogs, Trainor still hopes for the day she has a baby girl. "I need my daughter," she says. "I need her because my mom and I are the closest human beings there could be. She's my best friend. She's my soulmate. And so I need my daughter, and I'm going to go get her."

Outside of potty training, Trainor is often in the studio or making a TikTok.

"There was a time in my life that I met up with some people at TikTok to be like, 'Can you give me ideas? How can I be better at this?' And now I'm like, 'Oh, I understand it.' Once you get it, you just get it, I feel like, and it's another platform to be fun and just be yourself," she says. "The cool part of TikTok is they liked my real rawness. They liked when I talked about MiraLax and how I'm so pregnant sometimes."

Looking forward, Trainor is excited for the release of her new album Timeless in June and The Timeless Tour, which begins in September.

"This album is literally all upbeat, positive, love-yourself bangers that have my old school flavor with Modern Pop," Trainor says about her new music.
