The flowers are blooming! 💐 And we're not just talking about in the garden. This new trend will have beautiful spring flowers popping up in your kitchen, too.

When we first came across Allison Loveall's gorgeous creations, they instantly put a smile on our faces. And we're not alone—her work of art has garnered over 1 million likes on Instagram! After all, these crusty sourdough loaves were hand-painted with a bouquet of spring flowers. But immediately upon seeing the video, we also had a ton of questions. How is it possible to paint on bread? And can you actually eat the bread?

Loveall is a mom, artist, and small business owner of her company Loveall Design Co. She admits that baking is not her full-time job. "I love sourdough and baking and it is definitely a fun hobby of mine," she said on Instagram. But just like her pretty prints and accessories that she sells online, these sourdough breads are anything but ordinary. They're adorned with hand-painted flowers! 🎨 🥖

"I never knew that combining my artistic skills with bread making would lead to such a hit," Loveall wrote in another Instagram post.

Using bread as a canvas isn't exactly novel—remember that focaccia bread trend that turned fresh veggies and dough into a garden masterpiece? Well, this new idea takes the concept of art and baking to a whole other level. By using edible gel food coloring, Loveall is able to create beautiful brushstrokes in floral designs. Others seem to be jumping on the trend, too. After all, making bread and painting are both fun indoor activities that anyone can do! It's also a good way to slow down and release stress. We feel at peace just watching videos of her paint!

So how does bread painting work? First, she makes the sourdough loaf using a starter—it’s a long process, but worth it in the end. Before the dough goes into the oven, she adds her spring flowers by mixing various colors of gel food coloring with Chefmaster Liquid Whitener Liqua-Gel Food Coloring (which helps make the colors brighter and less runny). "When I was looking into painting on sourdough, I wanted to find a consistency that most mimicked acrylic painting," she explained on Instagram, "so that's why it looks so much like acrylic paint." But don't worry! It's all edible.

The result? A showstopping loaf that would look mighty stunning on your Easter brunch table. 😍
