(Page Turners is a monthly look at new books by Beaver Valley authors).

"Dead Adrenaline"

-- by Clinton J. Kurtyka

A 1989 New Brighton graduate with a 29-year career in law enforcement, the author's science fiction-horror novel hits close to home, imagining a near future where elections have brewed treacherous consequences, and zombies don't necessarily come from the grave.

Set in Beaver County in 2026, the novel's protagonist finds himself on a survival quest amid mass suffering and mind-bending destruction of the human-race. His crusade for answers will demand total determination. Battle-tested skills must be utilized with total commitment. Hesitation or retreat isn’t a suitable option, as the human species have become the prey.

Blended in with a twist of time travel, the story mentions Beaver County landmarks like the Rochester-Monaca Bridge, the Shell petrochemicals plant and Rosalind Candy Castle.

Sold on Amazon for $18.99 in paperback and $9.99 for Kindle.

"The Highlander's Bride Returns"

-- by Denise Lupinacci

The author, an Economy native and Quigley Catholic High School graduate now living in Harmony Township, co-owned the CS Kim Karate school with her husband from 2003-05, and currently volunteers at Old Economy Village, while taking classes at River Valley Tang Soo Do in Ambridge.

Her fictional novel introduces readers to Lady Sutherland, who lost everything when her father, Laird Sutherland, ordered his soldiers to help her escape by boat the night Laird MacKay laid siege on her castle. She even lost her homeland when a storm displaced her to a faraway land. Now, after three long years, she returns to Scotland with three soldiers and two Siberian huskies.

Meanwhile, Patrick Gordon, the Earl of Huntly, is convinced that his betrothed is dead after searching for her for three years. Patrick agreed to marry the daughter of an adversary to make peace. Months before they are to be wed, Patrick hears of a woman dressed in trousers with two wolves returning to Scotland to seek revenge. With rekindled hope, Patrick resumes his search to find that his betrothed indeed lives, though Daniella Sutherland is not the proper lady of a laird anymore, but a warrior with a willful spirit. Her unconventional lifestyle sparks something within Patrick, and he will do anything to protect her.

"The Highlander's Bride Returns" is available for $11.99 in paperback on Amazon.
