And you don't have to travel far to find great spots. Romantic dining options abound in the Beaver Valley. Allow us to make five suggestions:

Frank G's Place, 500 Market St., Bridgewater

The year-old, river view restaurant's website explains its mission: "Making any day an extraordinary day by offering a distinctive dining experience while exceeding our guests' expectations in a sophisticated and inviting atmosphere."

Employing one of the valley's most experienced and creative bar staffs, signature cocktails and comprehensive wine selections are a fine start for your meal. The menu leans American, with a slant toward Italian, including appetizers like Parmesan Truffle Fries ($7) and Margherita Flatbread ($10), and entrees such as Braised Short Rib Pappardelle ($22) and Shrimp & Lemon Basil Penne ($20).

Shakespeare's Restaurant & Pub, 1495 Mercer Road, North Sewickley Township

Shakespeare's authentic castle design has enticed many romantic suitors over the past 24 years. Driving up the cobblestone entranceway surrounded by boulders brings an instant "Whoa!" factor. Once through the hefty 14-foot castle doors, visitors tread down stone slate floors, past stained oak walls, classic old lighting and suits of armor with shields and swords to the dining room and bar. Weather permitting, there's dining available on the patio overlooking the 18th green of a world-class golf course.

Valentine's Day week features horse-drawn carriage rides.

Choose from appetizers like Loaded Steak Fries topped with beer cheese ($8.95) and Asiago Spinach & Artichoke Dip ($11.95) and entrees such as Peasants Pot Roast ($19.95), Boursin Filet ($49.95), Macadamia Nut Chicken with a sweet Frangelico cream ($22.95) and "from the moat" seafood picks like Herb Cod ($23.95) and Crab Cakes ($32.95).
