The following story contains very light spoilers for Season 4, Part 1 of Ozark.

Ozark boasts plenty of star power in each episode. Jason Bateman and Laura Linney have a combined 17 Emmy nominations between them, and Linney has three Academy Award nominations of her own. Julia Garner is newcomer compared to those two, but she's got a pair of Emmy wins of her own (both for playing Ruth in Ozark), and will certainly continue to grow with the final season of Ozark and a new true story scammer drama Inventing Anna (also on Netflix) dropping right around the same time. But the final season of Ozark isn't just boasting recognizable talent in front of the camera, as the final two action-packed episodes of Season 4, Part 1 were directed by actress Robin Wright, who's been starring in big, notable films and TV shows for nearly 40 years.

Wright directed the final two episodes of Ozark Season 4, Part 1, meaning she got to helm the most dynamic and dramatic moments of the season. It's only the first half of what will be an explosive final season of the show, but we'll be damned if that ending didn't feel like a full-on season finale. Wright knows how to helm a tenuous, dramatic, thrilling show.

She first directed, officially, with an episode of House of Cards (which she starred in for six seasons) back in 2014. Since then, the actress directed a short film, nine more episodes of House of Cards, and made her feature debut with a 2021 movie called Land before helming these two vital episodes of Ozark.

Here's a little bit more about Wright and her directing career.

Wright directed the final two episodes of Ozark's Season 4, Part 1, meaning she was behind the camera for all. that. drama. She was helming for Navarro's negotation and subsequent arrest, and she was in charge for that shocking moment with Javi, Darlene, and Wyatt (you know the one!), and she oversaw that final sequence where an enraged Ruth confronted Marty and Wendy Byrde. As far as Ozark goes, that's just masterful stuff.

During production, Wright posted some Instagrams from the set of the show. "Having a blast directing @ozark!" she wrote to caption one of them.

Another was more of a behind-the-scenes moment, showing the inside of the Byrde family's casino, the Missouri Belle. "#directing #ozark #duringcovid @ozark behind the scenes, or in front! #bts #casino Thankful for such an excellent #crew #lovemycrew #lovemyjob #lovethisshow And I’m so thankful for all of you!" she wrote.

Wright is, of course, best known for her career as an actress.

Wright has played countless memorable and notable roles in her nearly 40 years in film and television (her first was on the soap opera The Yellow Rose, back in 1983). Most notable of those roles is like between Jenny, the love of Forrest Gump's life in Forrest Gump, or as Buttercup in one of our great "modern" fairytale stories, Rob Reiner's The Princess Bride.

She's got plenty of experience in Ozark-level thrillers, with the tension and suspense ramped all the way up; she played key roles in M. Night Shyamalan's Unbreakable, her ex-husband Sean Penn's drama The Pledge, David Fincher's The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, and Denis Villeneuve's Blade Runner 2049. Fans of sports movies have likely seen her in Moneyball, and DCEU fans will recognize her from Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman 1984, and Zack Snyder's Justice League. All to say: you probably recognize her from the big screen.

You likely remember that she's got quite a bit of experience on Netflix as well; she played Claire Underwood for six seasons on House of Cards, even leading the final season after Kevin Spacey's firing.

But Ozark isn't her first time in the director's chair.

Before the release of her two episodes of Ozark, Wright saw her feature debut, Land, released back in 2021. The movie is about a grieving woman who heads off to the wilderness in Wyoming, looking for meaning in an incredibly troubled time. Wright starred in the movie herself, alongside Demian Bichir and Kim Dickens.

Wright also directed ten episodes of House of Cards, between the show's second and sixth seasons.
