Give your basic black TV a little fancy flair with a custom DIY TV frame. On this episode of In The Know: DIY, TikTok design star and DIY diva, Tay Beepboop (@taybeepboop), shows you step-by-step how to create your own custom luxury TV frame, transforming your watch parties into a truly cinematic experience.
Tools & Materials Used
Table saw, or hand saw
Step 1: Measure Your TV
Use the tape measure to calculate the dimensions of your TV. When using the saw to build the frame, you will lose 1-2 millimeters of wood length, so make sure to factor that into your measurements.
Step 2: Cut The Baseboard At 45-Degree Angles
First, put on your safety glasses. Make sure that the baseboard is facing the correct direction before cutting so the pieces of wood fit together neatly to frame the TV.
Step 3: Arrange & Measure Your Baseboard Pieces
After cutting the baseboard, arrange the pieces of wood in the shape of a frame on the floor. Measure the inside of the frame to ensure that the angles are a perfect 90 degrees, forming a precise rectangle.
Step 4: Connect Your Baseboard Pieces
Flip over the pieces of wood, keeping them in the same arrangement. Drill the joining hardware brackets to the outer and inner corners of the frame, binding the pieces together.
Step 5: Add The Crown Molding Trim
Measure the inner edges of the frame, then cut strips of the crown molding trim at 45-degree angles to line the central rim.
Step 6: Attach The Wood Appliques
Step 7: Stick Gold Washi Tape Around The TV
To help the frame blend in well with the TV, stick gold washi paper to the black outer edges of the TV.
Step 8: Spray Paint The Frame
Set up a spray painting area outside. Put on your respirator mask and spray the entire frame with gold spray paint.
Step 9 (Optional): Add Gold Rub ‘N Buff
Spread some gold Rub ‘n Buff wax on the frame to give it an aged patina.
Step 10: Hang The Frame On The TV
Finally, attach the velcro strips to the top of the TV, and hang the TV Frame.
