Open Book: The Seventeen Book Club Has Chosen Its Next Read

Welcome to Open Book: The Seventeen Book Club! If you are an avid reader and can’t stop seeing #BookTok videos pop up on your FYP, then you’re in the right place. Here at Seventeen, we believe that books are magical, transformative devices that hold the ability to introduce us to new places, cultures, and ideas. They maintain the capacity to explore beautiful stories about a range of topics, including first love, friendship, family, race, and identity.
With that said, we are so excited to dedicate a space to book lovers. We hope to diversify and expand your library, highlight established and emerging authors, and connect through a shared love of reading.
Each quarter, we will announce four book titles that are in the running to be our next book club read. Once we properly introduce each title and provide a brief synopsis, we will post a poll on Seventeen’s Instagram Stories (follow us here). Once the poll is up, vote for the book you’d like to read. Once voting is closed — the poll is live for 24 hours — we will announce the winner on our Stories.
What happens after the winner is announced? Buy the book or check it out from the library! Then join the Open Book Discord group, where you’ll have the opportunity to discuss the book with fellow readers and ask questions.
Towards the end of the reading period, we will ask you to submit your questions, comments, and/or thoughts for the author. In a video interview or Instagram Live, we will go over these all of these inquiries and so much more. (Check out our previous author interviews below!)
OUR NEXT PICK
The next Open Book read is... Throwback by Maurene Goo!
Samantha Kang is the daughter of a first-generation Asian American immigrant, Priscilla. She and her mom have never really seen eye-to-eye but after one particularly bad fight, Sam suddenly realizes she’s transported back in time to high school in the ‘90s — with the 17-year-old version of her mom.
Maurene Goo is the author of other bestselling titles such as Somewhere Only We Know, The Way You Make Me Feel, and I Believe in a Thing Called Love.
Where to buy the book
You can purchase Throwback on Amazon or Bookshop.org. You can also pick up a copy from your local independent bookseller or check it out from the library! Here is an entire directory of public libraries in the United States.
