Oh, how the tables have turned! Parents are used to lecturing their kids on responsibility — but it’s the other way around for Olivia Wilde. She revealed that her kids Otis Alexander, 10, and Daisy Josephine, 7, who she shares with ex Jason Sudeikis, get onto her for one thing in particular, and the story is too cute.

The Don’t Worry Darling director and star told PEOPLE on Wednesday that her kids “are begging me to make something that’s not rated R.” She explained with a laugh, “I have one [film I’m working on] right now that they can see.” According to Otis and Daisy, this is unacceptable.

Wilde said they tell her, “Mom this is irresponsible!” Not them getting onto their own mother about R-rated movies! Isn’t it usually the other way around?!

Poor kids, they just want to support their mom! Luckily, Wilde will let them watch her films when they’re a little older. “I do think about the effect they have on my kids,” she told PEOPLE about her projects. “In the end, I want them to learn from me that everything you do in your life is all a learning process. I wouldn’t be the director I am today if I hadn’t made all the things I’ve made.”

“I try to encourage them all the time: You don’t have to feel like everything is the greatest thing you’ve ever done,” she added. Brilliant advice! Especially because her kids want to follow in her footsteps in the entertainment world one day. She revealed that Daisy “wants to be a director, which is so cool.” “She loves music videos. And I grew up loving music videos but we had MTV and VH1 all day long.”

The Avengelyne director shared that she and Daisy will “study the direction of” big artists like Dua Lipa, Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, and Olivia Rodrigo. Afterward, the 7-year-old will “direct her own videos. And then we cut them together.” (Hey, maybe her and North West can get together sometime and make something!)

In an interview with PEOPLE in January, Wilde gushed about her kids. “They’re so great. They’re huge and they’re so healthy and happy,” she said. “I already feel like they’re giant teenagers, but we’re having a lot of fun. They’re my best friends.”

“We have so much fun. They’re so active. They’re musicians and they’re athletes and they’re just cool,” Wilde added. “They both play drums and they sing and we just have a great time. We’re a big karaoke family.”

These celebrity kids are giving their parents a humbling reality check by having zero interest in their movies.
