Now We Know Why Justin Bieber Was Crying in Public
Why was Justin Bieber crying? This was the pressing question of the week (that, and why does Mike Pence think Star Wars is real?), until today. The Internet was sent into an investigative frenzy after Bieber was spotted teary-eyed and dramatically hanging his head in his hands during a bike ride with his recently betrothed, model Hailey Baldwin, in New York on Tuesday. Later, Baldwin was reportedly crying at a restaurant, sparking speculation of trouble between the young golden couple. But the pop star now has an explanation for all of the waterworks: He was crying about the complexities of marriage. And who among us isn’t, really?
Asked about his tears in a video released by TMZ on Thursday, Bieber holds up a book: The Meaning of Marriage: Facing the Complexities of Commitment With the Wisdom of God by Presbyterian “mega-pastor” Timothy Keller. “This,” Bieber says. “You got good days, and you got bad days. It’s not real if it doesn’t have any bad days.” For a never-married 24-year-old, this is . . . strangely wise?
According to a scan of its Amazon reviews, The Meaning of Marriage is a go-to text for engaged and already-married Christians, in which Keller writes that his “primary goal is to give both married and unmarried people a vision for what marriage is according to the Bible.” We know a lot of newly engaged celebrity couples who might benefit from such a text, who are part of the 2018 summer of proposals. Of particular interest to Bieber and Baldwin as they publicly cry all over New York? It could be Keller’s realistic portrayal of marriage, per one five-star review: “He does not minimize the difficulties, or the effort and hard work involved in a marriage.” Amen!
