Sure, it’s fun to get all the jokes off about Nick Cannon’s many, many jobs. However, it’s easy to forget that he’s actually an extremely successful comedian and actor who’s been in the business since he was a teenager. His headline grabbing comments and behavior sometimes overshadow his longevity in the entertainment industry.

From “Drumline” to “Love Don’t Cost a Thing” to “Wild ‘N Out” to “The Masked Singer,” Cannon has been a constant presence in our lives for over two decades. That hustle and hard work led him to become a millionaire in his early twenties, an age when many young people are trying to figure out how to pay for college.

These days, Cannon makes about $100 million a year, largely through projects that go through his production company, Ncredible Studios, according to Forbes.

While speaking to Forbes at the third annual Under 30 Summit in Botswana, Cannon detailed how he approached the early days of his career and where the ambition came from.

“A lot of people in my peer group at the time were just having fun, but I really was driven to say this is what I want to do in my life and speak those things into existence,” Cannon said.

If you’re a little too young to remember the early 2000s, Cannon was everywhere. You think he has a lot of jobs now, back then you couldn’t turn on the TV or go to the movies without him popping up. There was a time when people were predicting he’d be the next Will Smith. But since he’s not afraid to take risks, he decided not to listen to early mentors, choosing instead to travel his own unique path.

Leaving “America’s Got Talent” and moving on to a new show where celebrities competed in a singing contest while wearing ridiculous costumes was a huge risk, but as we know now, it worked out.

His fearless decision making seems very on brand when you hear his advice for young entrepreneurs at the summit: “Don’t take anyone’s advice.”

Up next for Cannon, Fox recently renewed “The Masked Singer” for Season 12 and he’ll also guest star in Season 2 of the network’s crime anthology “Accused.”
