Netflix Announce Six New Nordic Movies Including ‘The Key Series’ & ‘Je M’Appelle Agneta’ Adaptations At Stockholm Showcase

Netflix announced six new Nordic feature film productions at its Next on Netflix showcase in Stockholm on Monday.
The showcase, which followed similar events in Germany and London last week, gave updates on 26 titles across film and TV, including 12 new titles. For the new Nordic TV line-up, read here.

On the cinema front, new Nordic movies include an adaptation of the Key Series crime whodunnit books about Private detective Julia Stark, by Alex Ahndoril, the pseudonym for husband and wife writers Alexandra Coelho Ahndoril and Alexander Ahndoril.
Working titled The Key Series, the debut feature-length instalment will see Julia Stark hired by a wealthy family to solve a murder been committed at their estate in the northwest of Sweden.
Banijay company Filmlance is lead producing. Casting and the delivery date has yet to be confirmed.
The platform is also getting behind Little Siberia from Finnish director Dome Karukoski, whose feature credits include the well-travelled Tom Of Finland.
The drama revolves around a remote village which is changed forever when a meteorite falls through the roof of a car one night.
Karukoski takes co-writing credits with Minna Panjanen on the film, adapted from the eponymous novel by Antti Tuomainen.
Ina Sohlberg at SF Studios is producing with Mark Lwoff, Misha Jaari at indie outfit Bufo. Cast members are Eero Ritala, Malla Malmivaara, Tommi Korpela, Martti Suosalo. Delivery is for 2025.
Netflix also announced sequel Maybe Baby 2, revisiting two couples who bonded over a baby swap misunderstanding and now try to live together in a family collective. Barbara Topsøe-Rothenborg returns to direct. Marcella Dichmann at SF Studios is producing.
The platform also unveiled ambitious World War Two drama The Swedish Connection about the true story of Gösta Engzell, an anonymous bureaucrat at the Swedish Foreign Ministry who influenced government policies in such a way that helped save Jews in Nazi-controlled countries such as Norway and Denmark.
The cast features Henrik Dorsin, Sissela Benn, Jonas Karlsson, Johan Glans, Marianne Mörck, Oscar Töringe, Loa Falkman and Olle Jansson.
Thérèse Ahlbeck and Marcus A. Olsson are co-directing and share co-writing credits. Julia Gebauer at Way Feature Films is producing.
Further new films include Norwegian drama The Right Track, about a chaotic young woman who embarks on a life-changing quest to compete in the 54 kilometre Birken ski race having never previously skied, and Je M’Appelle Agneta, an adaption of Swedish author Emma Hamberg eponymous bestseller about a woman in her late 40s who leaves her safe life behind to become an au pair in France.
In other Nordic movie news, the platform announced the casting of Mudit Gupta, Celina Meyer Hovland, Ole Steinkjer Øyen and Jan Sælid in 2024 Christmas film The Snow Sister.
The drama revolves around a young boy whose upcoming Christmas is tinged with sadness but finds potential happiness again in a new friend.
Brede Hovand is producing for Anonymous Content Nordic.
Other previously announced movies on Netflix’s Nordic slate due out this year include Sigge Eklund’s coming of age tale A Part Of You, Mikael Marcimain’s political extremism drama An Honest Life, Elle Márjá Eira’s Stolen, about a young Sámi woman’s quest to defend her community, and Jon Holmberg’s heist tale Trouble.
